Marvel Rivals: Modding Risks Account Bans Despite Season 1 Crackdown
Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized their experience with mods, creating skins like Vegeta Iron Man and goth Mantis—even transforming Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.
Last week's Season 1 update, featuring the Fantastic Four, included a secret anti-mod measure: asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service, prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential bans.
However, a workaround is circulating, requiring more steps but accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared the workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users about the risk of bans, noting that while NetEase hasn't issued permanent bans yet, the possibility remains.
New mods, utilizing the Fantastic Four characters, have already appeared. Ercuallo's mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, boasts over 5,000 downloads in just two days, according to Nexus Mods.

The key question is whether NetEase will follow through on its ban threats. While no confirmed bans for modding have surfaced yet, the workaround could trigger further action. NetEase's motivation likely stems from potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, and the impact mods could have on gameplay balance and performance. Prafit even notes that their workaround is best suited for high-powered PCs.
