Luigi's Mansion 2 HD's Dev Unveiled
Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, is revealed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS, was developed by Next Level Games. This new Switch version sees Luigi once again confronting King Boo across the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley.
Announced last September during a Nintendo Direct, and confirmed for a June 27th release this past March, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has generated excitement among fans. Recent previews and the game's file size reveal have heightened anticipation. However, the developer remained a secret until now.
Gaming news outlet VGC uncovered Tantalus Media's involvement by reviewing the game's credits. Tantalus Media's portfolio also includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania, the PC port of House of the Dead, and contributions to the Age of Empires Definitive Editions.
Zelda Remaster Studio's Work on Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
Early reviews suggest Luigi's Mansion 2 HD maintains the high quality of previous Nintendo remasters, drawing comparisons to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The game, unfortunately, experienced pre-order issues similar to Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling some orders.
The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern of secrecy from Nintendo regarding development studios, particularly close to release dates. The developers of Super Mario RPG and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story were similarly only revealed shortly before launch, suggesting this might be a common practice for future Nintendo titles.
