Insider: MultiVersus is on the verge of shutting down: Warner Bros. fighting game lost 99% of its players

The future of MultiVersus hangs in the balance, with Season 5 potentially serving as its final chapter. This ominous prediction comes from AusilMV, a reputable insider known for accurate game leaks.

A trusted source reportedly informed AusilMV that Season 5 is a last-gasp attempt to revive the game's flagging fortunes. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.

The game's initial launch in 2022 was a phenomenal success, boasting a peak of 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to pull the plug in June 2023, cleverly framing it as an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates in May 2024 failed to recapture its initial popularity.

Season 5, commencing in early February, represents a make-or-break moment for the developers. Success or failure will likely determine the game's ultimate fate.

Essentially, the current MultiVersus is a relaunched version of the game, with the original 2022 release retrospectively labeled a "beta." Despite initial player enthusiasm, the developers announced a temporary shutdown in March 2023, effective June of the same year, causing significant dissatisfaction among players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition.
