Housemarque Unveils 'Saros', Latest Successor to Returnal
Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, is set for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhancements for the PS5 Pro. The game, unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play, features actor Rahul Kohli and retains the signature Housemarque style.
Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in an eclipse and inhabited by formidable entities. The trailer hints at roguelike elements, with the phrase "come back stronger" and impressive displays of explosive, bullet-hell combat reminiscent of Housemarque's previous work.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's action-focused gameplay. While a new single-player IP, it expands upon Returnal's third-person combat mechanics.
However, Louden highlights a key difference: Saros introduces persistent resources and progression. While the game world shifts after player death, weapon and suit upgrades will be permanently retained.
Further details, including an extended gameplay showcase, are promised later this year. For a complete overview of today's PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
