Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, known for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and sparking further discussion about Nintendo's next-gen console. The mockup, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing several notable changes.

The most striking features include a larger form factor (approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck), magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button of unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con, explaining a release mechanism involving pins and magnets for secure attachment and detachment.

Magnetic Joy-Con and Optical Sensors

Tsai confirmed the magnetic nature of the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Con. Each Joy-Con features a large button that releases a pin, overcoming the magnetic connection to the console. Despite the shift from sliding rails to magnets, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, hinting at potential new functionality, possibly mouse-like capabilities via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images seem to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

Compatibility and Dimensions

Interestingly, while the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit into the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. Genki remains uncertain about the purpose of the additional USB-C port and the mysterious "C" button.
