In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to be released on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which marks the first chapter in a trilogy that significantly expands on the beloved 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade boasts improved graphics and lighting over the PS4 version and includes the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is now poised to leverage the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2. Hamaguchi emphasized that "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," indicating that the game's quality will be preserved on the new platform.

Hamaguchi also highlighted the benefits of the game's portability, stating, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature will not only enhance player accessibility but also facilitate sharing and discussing the game with others.

Further enhancing the gaming experience, the Switch 2 version will include GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and he hopes to foster a robust partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 to date, Hamaguchi hinted at the possibility of future releases in the series, including Rebirth and the concluding chapter of the trilogy, on the new console. He concluded, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2."

This move brings the Final Fantasy series full circle, as it originally debuted on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII, the first entry in the series to feature 3D graphics, in 1997. With this remake, fans will finally see Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo hardware once again.
