Dynasty Warriors: Origins - How To Switch Characters

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey offers significant choices impacting the main storyline. Regardless of your decisions, companions will frequently join you in battle.

These companions fight alongside you, but you can also temporarily control them. They're incredibly powerful, often surpassing the Wanderer's effectiveness, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, the final option in the war council menu allows you to choose your companion or fight alone; you cannot switch to companions here. Once the battle begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right.

Beneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accumulating faster by:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Most combat actions gradually fill this meter.

When your companion's blue meter is full, a "Change Character" button appears beside it. Press and hold this button for about a second to switch. This is the View Button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters is best reserved for the heat of battle, as companions are exceptionally strong, and control is temporary (approximately one minute). The blue meter that triggered the switch will gradually deplete, showing your remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of powerful combat arts.

Switching also initiates a powerful attack; aim carefully! Your companion will retain their own filled Musou and health bars, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
