Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare
Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported that Busche, who served as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year, will be leaving in the coming weeks. EA has been contacted by IGN for comment.
The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of discussion since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to other studio changes, the game's performance remains unclear. EA is expected to release its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4, providing potential insight into sales figures.
BioWare has confirmed that no DLC is planned for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5. Development of Mass Effect 5 has been hinted at for some time, though concrete details are still pending.
Busche's departure follows a period of significant change at BioWare. In August 2023, around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby, were laid off. These layoffs coincided with an internal restructuring at EA, dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition circulated around the same time, and Star Wars: The Old Republic transitioned to a third-party publisher, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 initially faced negative fan reaction, prompting BioWare to quickly release early gameplay footage. While the name change wasn't universally praised, subsequent impressions were generally positive.
The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is a question currently unanswered for fans.
