Delisted FPS Games Might be Returning with PS5 and Xbox Series Ports

Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation featuring four iconic Doom games, might be making a comeback on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The collection, which was delisted in 2024, has received new ESRB ratings suggesting a re-release on current-gen consoles. This excludes the Nintendo Switch and last-generation consoles.

The collection's significance stems from the enduring legacy of the original 1993 Doom, a groundbreaking title that revolutionized the first-person shooter genre. Its influence on 3D graphics, multiplayer, and modding capabilities is undeniable. While a previously considered Secret Level crossover didn't materialize, the potential return of the Slayers Collection is a welcome development.

Initially released in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the collection's ESRB "M" rating points towards a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch. The ESRB listing notably omits Switch and last-gen consoles, hinting at a focus on current-gen platforms. Further bolstering this speculation is the recent ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, given that the physical edition of the Slayers Collection included a Doom 64 remaster code.

Games Included:

  • Doom
  • Doom 2
  • Doom 3
  • Doom (2016)

This potential re-release aligns with Bethesda's past practice of re-releasing classic titles, mirroring the previous delisting and re-launch of Doom and Doom 2 as a combined package. It also mirrors id Software's trend of porting its games to current-gen consoles, as seen with Quake 2.

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, fans can anticipate the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages. This highly anticipated prequel, slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, promises a unique medieval twist on the established sci-fi franchise.
