Sid Meier's legendary turn-based strategy game series *Civilization* ushers in a new chapter with *Civilization VII*. Available across a wide array of gaming platforms, a key question on players' minds is whether *Civilization VII* supports cross-play and cross-progression.

*Civilization VII* does indeed offer cross-play, but it comes with some significant caveats. To participate in cross-play, you'll need an active 2K account, the publisher behind the *Civilization* series, linked to your gaming platforms. While cross-play functions smoothly between PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, complications arise when including Nintendo Switch players in online matches. The Switch version of the game limits map sizes to below standard and restricts the number of players in certain historical ages. Specifically, Switch players can engage in cross-play with up to four players in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and up to six in the Modern Age.

In summary, cross-play across most platforms is seamless, but when a Switch player joins an online match, the aforementioned limitations apply. While *Civilization VII* is enjoyable on the Switch, be aware of these constraints when participating in cross-play multiplayer.

In contrast to the intricacies of its cross-play system, *Civilization VII*'s cross-progression feature is straightforward, provided you have an active 2K account. By linking your 2K account across different platforms, *Civilization VII* ensures your progress is tracked and synced. This means you can seamlessly continue your game from PlayStation 5 to Xbox Series X|S, PC, or any other linked platform without starting over.

Recognizing the trend of gamers using multiple platforms, 2K and developer Firaxis Games have integrated cross-progression into *Civilization VII* from the start, a feature that was added post-launch in *Civilization VI*. Whether you're gaming on the go with a Steam Deck or Switch, or at home on a PC or console, *Civilization VII* will keep your progress in sync, reflecting modern gaming preferences.

*Civilization VII* is set to launch on February 11.
