The Bloodborne Remaster Hype Train: Fueled by Social Media
A Beloved Title Deserving a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, remains a fan favorite. Many players eagerly anticipate revisiting Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles. While no official announcement exists, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring Bloodborne imagery have ignited a wave of speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three evocative images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." The images depicted Djura, a formidable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam, the Hunter exploring Yharnam's heart, and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
Although these posts could simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like Twitter (now X) have meticulously analyzed every detail, searching for hidden clues hinting at a remaster. The timing of these posts, especially considering a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only amplified the anticipation.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location, further fueling the speculation. Comments flooded the post, with many expressing their hope for a Yharnam return on PC or modern consoles.
The Hunt for a Bloodborne Remaster Continues: Nearly a Decade Later
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne boasts a devoted following and critical acclaim, often cited among the greatest video games ever created. Despite this, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake as a potential precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, the lengthy development time of the Demon's Souls remake (over a decade) fuels concerns about a similar wait for Bloodborne. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, anticipation is at an all-time high.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the potential benefits of remastering the game for modern hardware, stating that increased accessibility for players is a key factor.
Miyazaki's comments offer a spark of hope, but the final decision rests with Sony, not FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware fully publishes, Bloodborne's IP rights remain with Sony. Miyazaki has previously stated that he is not at liberty to discuss Bloodborne specifics due to this.
Bloodborne's passionate fanbase continues to yearn for a remaster. Despite its success, the game's reach remains limited to the PS4. Whether the ongoing speculation will materialize into a release remains to be seen.
