Battlefield 2026 Teaser Hinted in EA's Earnings Call
EA's Next Battlefield Game: A Return to Roots
Electronic Arts (EA) announced today that the next installment in the Battlefield franchise is slated for release sometime between April 2025 and March 2026, falling within their fiscal year 2026. This follows the release of a pre-alpha gameplay glimpse and the unveiling of "Battlefield Labs," a new player testing initiative designed to gather feedback and shape the game's development.
This ambitious project leverages the combined efforts of four studios under the "Battlefield Studios" umbrella: DICE (Stockholm), Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion. Each studio is tackling specific aspects of the game:
- DICE (Sweden): Multiplayer development.
- Motive: Single-player missions and multiplayer maps.
- Ripple Effect: Onboarding new players to the franchise.
- Criterion: Single-player campaign.
EA emphasizes this is a crucial development phase, seeking player input on core gameplay elements, including combat, destruction, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, maps, modes, and squad play. Classic modes like Conquest and Breakthrough will be tested, alongside exploration of new ideas and refinements to the class system. Participation in Battlefield Labs requires signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
The upcoming Battlefield marks a return to a modern setting, drawing inspiration from the highly-regarded Battlefield 3 and 4 eras, a deliberate shift away from the futuristic setting and specialist characters of Battlefield 2042. The game will feature 64-player maps and will forgo the specialist system, addressing criticisms leveled at its predecessor. Concept art hints at naval and aerial combat, along with environmental hazards like wildfires.
EA's commitment to this next Battlefield is substantial, involving multiple studios and representing a significant investment. The company aims to recapture the trust of core Battlefield fans while expanding the franchise's appeal to a broader audience, offering diverse experiences within the Battlefield universe. Specific platforms and the final game title remain unannounced.
