To kick off The Tournament quest in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you'll need to engage with Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you’ve taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. Head to the Southeastern part of Yamato to the Ominesanji Temple, where this secret fighting arena is hidden. For ease of access, synchronize at the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west of the area, creating a fast travel point. This is crucial for returning to the location or switching characters as needed.

Upon arrival at Ominesanji Temple, converse with Gyoji again. He'll brief you on the task ahead: you must win four one-on-one duels followed by a battle against the ultimate champion. After the briefing, ring the bell to initiate your first fight.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death combat. Fortunately, you can rest between bouts, taking as much time as needed before ringing the bell to start the next fight. Use these breaks to heal with rations, and consider upgrading your weapons and armor to ensure you’re in top form.

To triumph over each opponent, we suggest wielding a long katana as Yasuke. Master the art of dodging and parrying to exploit the fighters' vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is sufficiently charged.

Understanding the weapons each fighter uses can give you an edge. Here's a rundown of the opponents you'll face:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen employs two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal if you keep your distance for too long.

After defeating all challengers, speak with Gyoji once more on the hill. He will express his gratitude and promise to contact you for future tournaments. The “Test Your Might” trophy should unlock during this conversation.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Long Katana is your best bet for dominating The Tournament. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana available and upgrade it to its maximum level at your hideout’s blacksmith. An engraving that boosts Armor Damage or Armor Piercing can significantly enhance your effectiveness. Your armor choice is equally critical, not just for increasing your health but also for the combat-altering abilities provided by engravings.

Before tackling The Tournament, ensure you’ve unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox from The Shinbakufu. Also, acquire the Protector’s Armor by completing a Castle mission. The former increases your damage by 75% but caps your health at 25%, while the latter allows you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings into one armor set can enable you to defeat The Tournament’s foes in under a minute, provided you parry effectively and frequently.

For skills, maximize your Mastery points in the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Prioritize maxing out Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage, and unlock Power Dash and Payback for strategic advantages.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S from March 20th.
