Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author : Audrey Update : Apr 20,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to their iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. But where does it stand among its predecessors? With over 30 games under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr, and now, 18 years later, we find ourselves in 16th-century Japan with Naoe and Yasuke at the helm. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in the core series. I've taken the liberty of ranking these games based on my personal enjoyment using an IGN Tier List.

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, thrilling ship combat, and a vibrant cast, making it the quintessential AC experience for me. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly elevated the series to new heights. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might surprise some due to its expansive nature, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Viking combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. It's joined by Unity, whose depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even a decade on.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla overly bloated or consider Assassin’s Creed 2 overrated? You have the chance to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the broader IGN community.
