Anbernic Suspends US Deliveries Over Tariffs
Anbernic, a leading retro handheld console manufacturer, has temporarily halted all orders from U.S. customers.
As reported by The Verge, the company cited recent changes to U.S. tariff regulations as the reason for this decision. They advised customers to "focus on products shipped from our U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by import duties and guarantee secure purchases." Orders requiring shipment from China are currently being suspended.
The company gained popularity through its affordable Game Boy-inspired devices, typically shipped directly from China upon release before maintaining U.S. warehouse stock.
While Anbernic's website offers shipping origin options, not all products are U.S.-warehouse available. This means American gamers can no longer access certain models like the RG CubeXX or RG 406H.
The Trump administration's tariff increases on Chinese imports—reaching up to 145%—are affecting multiple industries. Proposed additional tariffs, including potential 245% rates on electric vehicles when combined with existing fees, continue this trend. Most manufacturers ultimately transfer these increased costs to consumers, with gamers facing higher prices across tech products from Nintendo Switch 2 accessories to gaming laptops.
Anbernic stated they're actively seeking solutions for customers facing unexpected customs fees during this transition phase.
Nintendo recently revealed the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct presentation. Initial U.S. pre-orders planned for early April were postponed to April 24 due to tariff uncertainties affecting both the U.S. and Canadian markets. While maintaining the console's $449.99 price point, Nintendo adjusted pricing upward for most Switch 2 accessories.
