Fallen Feathers Dev Apologizes for Poor Performance
Earlier today, our coverage highlighted that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched with over 114,000 concurrent players on Steam, positioning it as one of the most significant Steam debuts for a Soulslike game not developed by FromSoftware.
This achievement arrives despite the game currently holding a 'Mostly Negative' rating on Steam. Players are citing concerns with "extremely poor performance," a "completely lifeless" protagonist, and "clunky" combat and gameplay mechanics. As of this writing, only 22% of the more than 9,300 user reviews are positive.
Developer Leenzee has now released an official statement addressing these problems, acknowledging that "these issues should never have occurred," and stating, "we deeply regret the inconvenience and negative experience some players are currently facing."
"We are confident in the game's performance within our recommended specifications, but we are actively working on optimization," the development team stated. "We aim to release a patch as soon as possible." Players encountering persistent issues are advised to submit a support ticket to publisher 505 Games or adjust their in-game settings.
This is not the only matter the developer is currently handling.
"We are aware of some pricing anomalies in certain regions. We are working with Steam to restore the correct pricing," the team noted, before also addressing an error with pre-order rewards.
"The root cause is a bug in the reward distribution for the Standard and Deluxe editions, which prevented players from receiving the correct items. We are fixing this issue in the upcoming patch," Leenzee explained. "As a gesture of our appreciation, we will provide all players who purchase the game on Steam with a complimentary digital copy of the original soundtrack. We will also process refunds for anyone who has already purchased the soundtrack separately via Steam."
Additionally, all players who purchase the Deluxe Edition moving forward will receive "a brand-new exclusive costume," though the team asks for patience, noting to "please understand that this may take some time to implement."
"We are fully committed to investigating and resolving these issues as quickly as possible. Our team is treating these problems with the highest priority, working diligently to address everything promptly and ensure you have the best possible gaming experience," the statement concluded.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action-RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark and turbulent late Ming Dynasty. You assume the role of a mysterious warrior stricken by a horrific feather disease, who uncovers hidden secrets and confronts supernatural foes in an ancient empire on the brink of collapse. In our review, we rated it 'Great,' awarding a score of 8/10, and wrote: "Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another excellent addition to the growing Soulslike genre, featuring superb combat, wonderful level design, an impressive skill tree, and formidable bosses. Just be prepared for some uneven difficulty swings and a reliance on occasionally cheap-feeling ambushes."
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched earlier today, July 24, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Microsoft has also added it to Game Pass as a day-one title for subscribers to the Ultimate tier.
