Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 | IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025

Warhammer 40,000 has officially landed on Nintendo Switch 2 with the reveal of a Rogue Trader port.

Owlcat Games’ acclaimed cRPG set in the grimdark future of the 41st millenium initially debuted on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in December 2023. For newcomers, it plays similarly to Baldur’s Gate 3 but within the Warhammer 40,000 universe. IGN awarded Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader an 8/10, noting: “This title is a deep, 130-hour space epic featuring superb writing and combat mechanics, though it unfortunately suffers from numerous bugs.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition was unveiled at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 alongside a fresh trailer. No launch date has been confirmed yet.

Since its release, Owlcat Games has supported Rogue Trader with several patches and DLCs, including the latest Lex Imperialis expansion in June. The game currently holds a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam.

Here is the official description of Rogue Trader:

Players assume the role of a Rogue Trader, heir to an ancient dynasty of bold privateers who govern their own trade protectorate and explore the edges of Imperial space with the Emperor’s blessing. Thanks to their Warrant of Trade, they wield unimaginable power and privilege, tasked with expanding the Imperium's borders. A massive voidship, crewed by countless loyal personnel, stands ready at their command. Show mercy or wrath to your subjects; remain faithful to the Emperor or ally with Humanity’s enemies — every choice made by the Rogue Trader sends ripples through entire star systems, altering both the world and its inhabitants.

Owlcat Games also shared news about other projects during IGN Fan Fest. The studio announced that the alpha version of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, their follow-up to Rogue Trader, will release in Q4 2025.

It’s an exciting era for Warhammer 40,000 video games. Beyond the Switch 2 launch of Rogue Trader and the upcoming Dark Heresy alpha, major updates are still arriving for titles like Darktide and Space Marine 2. Looking further ahead, development is underway on Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II, Dawn of War 4, and Space Marine 3.
