T-1000 Gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1 Echoes Terminator 2, Surprise Kameo DLC Revealed
NetherRealm Studios has unveiled the first gameplay footage for the T-1000, a new DLC guest character in Mortal Kombat 1, alongside the announcement of Madam Bo as a DLC Kameo fighter. The T-1000's gameplay showcases a variety of attacks that echo iconic moments from Terminator 2, such as using blade and hook arms. These moves draw similarities to existing characters Baraka and Kabal, and include a unique transformation into a liquid metal blob, culminating in an uppercut reminiscent of Glacius from Killer Instinct.
The T-1000 is brought to life with the voice and likeness of Robert Patrick, reprising his role from the 1991 film. A highlight of the teaser is a clash with Johnny Cage, followed by a Fatality that recreates the thrilling truck chase from Terminator 2, where the T-1000 emerges from the vehicle to unleash a barrage of gunfire on Cage.
Simultaneously, NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement of Madam Bo joining *Mortal Kombat 1* as a Kameo fighter. A beloved character from the game's story, Madam Bo is an elderly restaurant owner known for her bravery in fending off Smoke and his goons. Her brief appearance in the teaser shows her assisting the T-1000 during a fight with Johnny Cage. Both the T-1000 and Madam Bo will be available starting March 18 during the early access period for Khaos Reigns owners, with wider availability for purchase on March 25. The T-1000 marks the final addition to the Khaos Reigns expansion, joining other fighters like Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Speculation continues about the potential for a third set of DLC characters or a Kombat Pack 3, influenced by discussions on Mortal Kombat 1's sales performance.
Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, remains committed to the Mortal Kombat franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav highlighted plans to focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile, NetherRealm's development chief Ed Boon has reassured fans that the studio decided on its next game three years ago but will continue supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for the foreseeable future.
In an interview with IGN in June 2023, Boon discussed the decision to focus on Mortal Kombat 1, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to Unreal Engine 4 from Unreal Engine 3 used in Mortal Kombat 11. Despite these changes, Boon emphasized that the door remains open for future Injustice games, assuring fans that the franchise is far from closed.
