Switch 2 Preview: Gotham Knights Among Rumored Third-Party Titles
Gotham Knights: A Potential Nintendo Switch 2 Title?
Speculation is swirling that Gotham Knights could be among the third-party titles launching on the Nintendo Switch 2. This intriguing possibility stems from a game developer's resume.
A recent YouTube video by Doctre81 (January 5, 2025) highlighted a resume showcasing a developer's work at QLOC (2018-2023). The resume lists several titles, including Mortal Kombat 11 and Tales of Vesperia, but notably, it also includes Gotham Knights with a listing for two unreleased platforms.
One platform could be the original Nintendo Switch, given its past ESRB rating. However, performance issues on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S might have hindered a port. The second, unreleased platform strongly suggests the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
It's crucial to remember that this is based on unconfirmed information. Neither Warner Bros. Games nor Nintendo has made an official announcement.
Past Switch Speculation and ESRB Rating
Initially released in October 2022 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X, Gotham Knights was rumored for a Nintendo Switch release following an ESRB rating. This fueled anticipation, even speculation of a Nintendo Direct reveal. However, the game never materialized on the original Switch, and the ESRB rating was subsequently removed.
The recent YouTube report, coupled with the 2023 ESRB rating, reignites the possibility of a Switch 2 release.
Nintendo Switch 2: Backwards Compatibility and Official Announcements
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa tweeted on May 7, 2024, promising further information on the Switch's successor "within this fiscal year" (ending March 2025). He later confirmed backwards compatibility with original Switch software and Nintendo Switch Online services. The use of physical cartridges remains unconfirmed.
