DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming

Gunn expressed his excitement about the project, confirming Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, a fact previously reported. The film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This acclaimed comic, nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award, centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who enlists Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem.

The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further casting announcements include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and the previously announced Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other upcoming DC projects in development include The Batman Part II (with uncertain connection to the Gunn-led universe) and a reported Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
