Splatoon 4 on the Horizon?
Nintendo has announced the conclusion of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
"After two fantastic years of Splatoon 3, regular updates are ending," stated Nintendo's Twitter (X) announcement. "But don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will return! Weapon adjustments will be released as needed, and Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges continue."
This announcement follows the September 16th Grand Festival, Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest. A commemorative video showcased past Splatfests and Deep Cut's performance. Nintendo's farewell message: "Thanks for sticking with us in the Splatlands—it's been amazing!"
Launched two years ago on September 9th, Splatoon 3's shift away from active development has reignited rumors of a sequel. Speculation about Splatoon 4 is intensifying.
Some players believe the Grand Festival contained easter eggs hinting at a new city in a potential Splatoon 4. One fan commented on a metropolis-like location in a shared screenshot: "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Maybe the Splatoon 4 setting?" Others disagree, suggesting it's simply a variation of Splatoon 3's Splatville.
While unconfirmed, Splatoon 4 rumors have circulated for months, suggesting Nintendo has begun development. With the Grand Festival marking Splatoon 3's final large Splatfest, fans believe a Splatoon 4 announcement is imminent.
Past Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading to speculation of a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4. However, official confirmation from Nintendo is still awaited.
