Spectre Divide and studio behind it shut down
Spectre Divide had been generating buzz ever since it was revealed that the renowned streamer and former esports pro Shroud was a key figure in its development. However, a big name doesn't always guarantee a successful project. Today, Mountaintop Studios announced its closure and the upcoming shutdown of the shooter's servers.
The studio itself will cease operations by the end of this week, with the servers staying online for just under a month. During this period, the studio will issue refunds to players for their purchases. Despite the involvement of a high-profile figure like Shroud, the game struggled to attract a significant audience or generate sufficient revenue to sustain its operations.

It's disheartening to see another project falter, but this situation underscores the immense challenges of entering the live-service game market. Spectre Divide failed to introduce anything truly innovative or revolutionary that could draw in players. Even Shroud's fame and esports credentials couldn't bridge the gap between top-tier players and casual gamers, who have vastly different priorities.
Ultimately, another esports-inspired venture has fallen short in the competitive landscape of game development. Press F to pay respects.
