Sleepless in SF6: Fighters Clash in "Sleep Fighter" Tournament
A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament, "Sleep Fighter," is making waves in Japan by prioritizing sleep. This Capcom-endorsed event, sponsored by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a groundbreaking rule: sufficient sleep is mandatory.
Sleep Points: A New Scoring System
This team-based tournament (three players per team) uses a best-of-three match format. Points are awarded for wins, but crucially, teams also earn "Sleep Points" based on their collective sleep hours.
In the week preceding the tournament, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Failure to reach a total of 126 hours across the team results in a five-point penalty for every hour short. The team with the most total sleep time gains a significant advantage: they choose the tournament's match conditions.
Promoting Sleep Wellness
SS Pharmaceuticals aims to highlight the vital role of sleep in peak performance through their "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First" campaign. The Sleep Fighter tournament is touted as the first esports event to penalize insufficient sleep.
