Like many survival games, Rust has a day and night mechanic to keep things exciting for players. Each part of the day brings its own challenges in the game. During the daytime, it’s easier for players to see and find materials, and nighttime tends to be more challenging because it’s harder to see.

Over the years, a lot of players have wondered how long a full day actually lasts in Rust. This guide will answer how long both the day and night phases are in the game and also show you how you can change the length of a day in Rust.

How Long Are Day & Night In Rust?

Understanding the length of the day and night can help players plan their explorations and base building in Rust. Nights are pitch black, with almost no visibility, which makes surviving much harder. Expectedly then, it’s the least favorite part of the game for most players.

A complete day in Rust lasts about 60 minutes, and a major chunk of this one hour comprises daylight. Daylight usually lasts around 45 minutes on a default Rust server. The night, on the other hand, only lasts 15 minutes.

Day and night change smoothly with dawn and dusk in Rust. Some players don’t like being out at night, but there are still plenty of things to do. Players can loot monuments, expand their bases, craft items, and do a lot of other stuff at night. From walls to armor, you can craft lots of different times at night, so use this time to tackle those annoying tasks that take a while.

As important as the length of a day might be to players, the devs have never explicitly mentioned it anywhere, and there is no way to check how long a day is on a particular server in Rust.

How To Alter Day & Night Length In Rust

If you want to make the night shorter or longer, you can hop on modded servers that have different day/night settings. Some of these servers make the nights really short, so players can get more out of their game time.

You can search for a community server with a name containing “night,” and connect with it. You can also use Nitrado to find a server with the day length you desire.
