Rise of the Ronin Devs' Unannounced AAA Title in the Works

Koei Tecmo's Q1 2024 financial report unveils an exciting slate of upcoming games, including a new Dynasty Warriors title and a currently unannounced AAA game.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins and Beyond

Omega Force is developing "Dynasty Warriors: Origins," a tactical action game set during the Three Kingdoms period. This marks the first mainline Dynasty Warriors entry since 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9 (and its 2022 expansion), and will launch in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The game features a "Nameless Hero" protagonist.

The report also confirms the global release of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake" (October 2024 for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC) and "FAIRY TAIL 2" (Winter 2024 for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC). Beyond these, Koei Tecmo is developing multiple unannounced titles, including at least one AAA game.

Strong sales of Rise of the Ronin fueled Q1 2024 console game profits, further solidifying Koei Tecmo's ambition to become a major player in the AAA market.

Koei Tecmo's AAA Ambitions

Koei Tecmo's stated goal is to consistently release AAA titles. The establishment of a dedicated AAA studio underscores this commitment, with their debut project already underway. While details on this unannounced AAA title remain scarce, the company's dedication to building a system for continuous large-scale game releases is evident. This signals a significant shift towards establishing a consistent presence in the high-budget video game market.
