The Pokémon Company International made a significant announcement at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships: the return of beloved mechanics from the original Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) in 2025.

Nostalgia Strikes: Trainer's Pokémon and Team Rocket Cards Return to the TCG

While a precise release date remains unconfirmed, the comeback of "Trainer's Pokémon" cards is official. A teaser trailer showcased iconic trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N, alongside their signature Pokémon: Lillie's Clefairy ex, Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex, N's Zoroark ex, and N's Reshiram. The trailer also subtly hinted at the potential return of Team Rocket, featuring Mewtwo and the infamous Team Rocket logo, sparking speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket set or even the revival of Dark Pokémon.

The anticipation is palpable, fueled by previous reports of a Japanese retailer listing and a trademark filing by The Pokémon Company ("The Glory of Team Rocket").

Paradise Dragona Set Debuts

Further exciting news from the World Championships includes the unveiling of initial cards from the Paradise Dragona set. PokeBeach reported showcasing Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex. This Japanese subset, focusing on Dragon-type Pokémon, is slated for an English release as part of the Surging Sparks set in November 2024.

The Pokémon TCG continues its momentum, with the upcoming release of Shrouded Fable, concluding the Kitikami chapter. This expansion boasts 99 cards (64 main cards and 35 secret rare cards), according to the official Pokémon TCG blog.
