Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Plans
The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the future of the game.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)
No Immediate Competitive Plans
In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the list. He humorously mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently considered, referencing a past April Fool's joke about a Pokémon Sleep championship. However, he emphasized that the possibility remains open for future consideration.
Early Stages and Balancing Concerns
While no official reasons have been given, speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old, with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balancing issues. Although the app includes competitive features, player feedback highlights the need for further balancing before competitive viability. Compared to the original Pokémon TCG, Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a simplified, beginner-friendly experience, suggesting a competitive focus wasn't a primary design goal from the outset.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
