According to Ubisoft, Gennojo is a multifaceted figure, characterized as charming yet reckless, and deeply conflicted. Driven by guilt, he aims to dismantle a corrupt system. His personality is that of a flirtatious rogue and a trickster, navigating life with wit, deceit, and a certain swagger. Despite his tough exterior, Gennojo is motivated by a strong sense of justice, particularly in aiding the poor and elderly.

While the exact timing of Gennojo's introduction in the game remains undisclosed, it is clear that he will play a significant part in the missions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Mackenyu has revealed that Gennojo is part of the "Shinobi League," and players will have the opportunity to recruit him as a companion throughout their journey in the game.
