Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date Revealed with New Footage

DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared a few seconds of thrilling new footage and expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is “one of my favorite things ever.” The clip features John Cena in action, showcasing his character Peacemaker smirking at the camera with a fire raging in the background. In the footage, Peacemaker is referred to as “a superhero now,” setting the stage for an action-packed season.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe (DCU). It will be the third entry in this new cinematic universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman movie this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will continue into the new DCU, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 of the show was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.

Gunn has emphasized that “many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes,” though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain under wraps. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter’s events directly impacting Peacemaker’s storyline.
