How to Fix Path of Exile 2 Freezing PC Issues

Troubleshooting Path of Exile 2 PC Freezes: A Guide

Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile 2, a Diablo-like action RPG, has encountered freezing issues for some players. This guide offers solutions to resolve these freezes, ranging from simple in-game adjustments to a more involved workaround.

Initial Troubleshooting Steps:

Several players report complete system freezes requiring hard restarts, particularly during loading screens. Before resorting to more advanced methods, try these initial fixes:

  • Graphics API: Switch between Vulkan and DirectX 11 (Dx11) at game launch.
  • V-Sync: Disable V-Sync in the game's graphics settings.
  • Multithreading: Disable multithreading in the graphics settings.

Advanced Workaround (Courtesy of Steam User svzanghi):

If the above steps fail, a more complex, albeit effective, workaround exists:

  1. Launch the Game: Start Path of Exile 2.
  2. Open Task Manager: Access your PC's Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). Click "Details."
  3. Set Affinity: Right-click on "POE2.exe" and select "Set Affinity."
  4. Disable Cores: Uncheck the boxes for CPU 0 and CPU 1.

This prevents complete system freezes, allowing you to force-quit the game via Task Manager and relaunch without a full PC reboot. However, you must repeat this process each time you start the game.

Important Note: While this workaround mitigates the issue, it doesn't eliminate the underlying problem. Regular PC restarts may still be necessary if freezing persists. Check back with The Escapist for further updates and optimal builds, such as the best Sorceress builds.
