Pocketpair Remains Tight-Lipped on Future Platforms
In a recent interview, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe discussed the hurdles in bringing Palworld to the Nintendo Switch. While not dismissing the possibility entirely, he cited significant technical challenges. Discussions regarding new platforms are ongoing, but no announcements are imminent.
The game's demanding PC specifications pose a considerable obstacle for a Switch port. Mizobe acknowledged these technical limitations, stating that porting to the Switch is currently difficult due to the disparity in system requirements.
Future platform releases remain unconfirmed, including PlayStation, other Nintendo consoles, and mobile. Earlier this year, Mizobe confirmed discussions for expansion to additional platforms. He also mentioned openness to partnerships and acquisitions but denied any buyout negotiations with Microsoft.
Expanding Multiplayer: Aiming for an 'Ark' or 'Rust' Experience
Beyond platform considerations, Mizobe expressed aspirations for enhanced multiplayer functionality. An upcoming arena mode, described as an experiment, will pave the way for more extensive multiplayer experiences. Mizobe aims to implement a robust PvP mode, drawing inspiration from the popular survival games Ark and Rust, known for their challenging environments, complex resource management, and player interaction features.
Pocketpair's Palworld, a creature-collecting and survival shooter, has enjoyed considerable success since its launch. Players capture Pals, utilize them for base building and combat, and strive for survival.
The game's initial launch was exceptionally strong, with 15 million PC copies sold within the first month and 10 million players on Xbox Game Pass. A significant update, the free Sakurajima update, is scheduled for release on Thursday, introducing a new island, the highly anticipated PvP arena, and additional content.
