"Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada Due to Tariffs"

Author : Nathan Update : May 21,2025

Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows?" This change was triggered by import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to spiral. The ripple effect has now crossed the border, with Nintendo Canada confirming that pre-orders in Canada are also delayed. So, if you were planning to snag one via your cousin in Winnipeg, you might want to rethink that plan.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, in order to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined timing of pre-orders in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and the ever-changing market conditions. Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains firm.

While tomorrow was supposed to mark the start of pre-orders, there's still no clarity on when gamers can start frantically refreshing their browsers and verifying their credit card details, leaving the gaming community in limbo and anxious about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.

In other news, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have taken to eBay, selling their pre-orders for as much as £500 ($639), significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
