Nintendo Console Rankings Unveiled
With the much-anticipated reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has finally confirmed the launch of its latest console. Boasting over 40 years of experience in video game hardware, Nintendo continues to captivate the gaming world. While the initial impressions suggest a conservative approach, we're eager to uncover what innovations Nintendo has in store. For those eagerly awaiting the next big thing, we've dissected every detail of the Switch 2 trailer here. However, before we dive into the future, let's take a nostalgic journey through Nintendo's storied past.
Over the past five decades, Nintendo has launched eight home consoles (NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, and the Switch) and five handhelds (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, and 3DS). The question remains: which of these iconic devices reigns supreme? I've taken the liberty of ranking them using an IGN Tier List, considering both the hardware's innovation and the legacy of its game library. Here's my personal tier list for your perusal:
The NES holds a special place in my heart as the first console I ever played. Memories of tackling Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, and the infamously difficult Hook as a five-year-old make it an undeniable S-tier contender for me. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch, with its ingenious hybrid design (despite the occasional stick drift issue), and its stellar lineup including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Odyssey, secures its spot alongside the NES at the top.
Disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you believe the Virtual Boy surpasses the N64? Feel free to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
