After viewing the credits for the first time, the adventure is far from over. Access to Chapter Select is granted only after completing the game's full narrative arc. This allows you to revisit previous sections within the same save file.

How To Unlock Chapter Select In NieR: Automata
Unlocking Chapter Select requires completing one of the game's true endings. This involves three playthroughs, culminating in a final choice during the decisive confrontation of the third playthrough. While often referred to as playthroughs, many consider each as a distinct chapter, contributing to the overarching narrative.
After viewing the credits of a playthrough, save your game. Reloading that save initiates the next segment, featuring a different protagonist. The final playthrough involves multiple character shifts. Completing this final playthrough unlocks Chapter Select for that specific save file.
How Chapter Select Functions In NieR: Automata
Chapter Select is accessible from two locations:
- The main menu of your save file upon loading the game.
- Any access point within the game world.
This menu allows you to select any chapter from the game's main storyline. Your progress, including weapons, level, and inventory, carries over. When loading a chapter, you can choose the playable character, provided that chapter features multiple characters.
It's important to note that completed side quests cannot be replayed, regardless of the chosen chapter. If transitioning between chapters, always save at an access point. Failing to do so results in the loss of progress, including levels and items acquired within that chapter. Chapter Select provides a convenient method to explore the game's entirety, revisit choices, and strive for all available endings.
