Netflix Developing 'D&D Universe' with Live-Action Series

Netflix is set to bring the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life with a new live-action series titled "The Forgotten Realms." This exciting project is being helmed by Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, and Drew Crevello, known for his work on WeCrashed, who will serve as the writer and showrunner. The Forgotten Realms, a renowned fantasy setting from the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, has also been featured in the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the critically acclaimed video game Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios.

According to Deadline, this series is poised to be one of Netflix's most significant investments in the fantasy genre. Drew Crevello has already penned the pilot episode, although both Netflix and Hasbro, the game's parent company, have refrained from official comments. Nellie Andreeva of Deadline noted that after extensive negotiations, the series is now in further development at Netflix. If successful, it could potentially expand into a broader D&D universe.

While fans eagerly await updates on this series, there has been no news regarding a sequel to the beloved film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Despite its popularity among fans, the movie did not meet Paramount Pictures' financial expectations. Chris Pine, who starred in the film, expressed his enthusiasm for a sequel in November 2023, stating he was "pretty confident" it would happen. However, no further developments have been announced.

Paramount CEO Brian Robbins has expressed openness to producing another Dungeons & Dragons movie, contingent upon reducing the budget. "We've got to figure out a way to make it for less," Robbins remarked.
