Let's be clear: Mortal Kombat 1 is experiencing a decline. It appears that the anticipated Season 3 content has been scrapped due to disappointing sales figures. The recently released trailer for Pro Kompetition, the game's esports circuit, can only be described as underwhelming at best.

For 2025, Pro Kompetition has set a total prize pool of $255,000. In today's esports landscape, this amount is modest, even by Fighting Game Community (FGC) standards. Top players have previously voiced concerns over the insufficient prize money, highlighting that it is not financially viable to travel internationally for tournaments that offer only a few hundred dollars in winnings.

This year, we are likely to see two distinct groups of players: one competing in North American tournaments and the other in Europe. These groups will only converge at EVO 2025, which is widely regarded as the premier tournament of the year.

While there are efforts to generate excitement and build hype, and these efforts do resonate to some extent, the reality behind the emotional appeal and the teased in-game image of T-1000 paints a rather somber picture for Mortal Kombat 1.
