Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
In his conversation with IGN at Gamescom, Ed Boon tackled fans' concerns about potential similarities between Homelander and Omni-Man's combat styles. Boon reassured fans that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is dedicated to creating distinct identities for each character. He explained that they've been given the creative freedom to explore various ideas, ensuring that players will feel like they are controlling two very different heroes.
Boon highlighted their approach to avoid overlapping abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," he stated, emphasizing the desire to keep the characters' abilities unique and engaging.
Furthermore, Boon discussed how the team drew inspiration from the characters' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. He stressed the importance of differentiating the main attacks to dispel any notions that Homelander and Omni-Man would be mere copies of one another. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon explained, underscoring the team's efforts to create a fresh and exciting gameplay experience for Mortal Kombat 1 fans.
