"Minecraft Guide: Obtaining Armadillo Scutes"

Author : Victoria Update : May 22,2025

The Armadillo, a charming addition to *Minecraft* introduced in the 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, can be found across various warm biomes. This passive mob, adorned with protective "Scutes," plays a crucial role in crafting the innovative Wolf Armor. Here's a detailed guide on how to obtain Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft*.

How to Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft:

Armadillos are exclusive to warm biomes, often spawning in groups of two or three. Their defensive mechanism involves rolling into a tight ball when approached hastily. To prevent this, players should approach these creatures slowly and cautiously.

The biomes where Armadillos can be found include:

  • Badlands
  • Eroded Badlands
  • Savanna
  • Savanna Plateau
  • Windswept Savanna
  • Wooded Badlands

There are two primary methods for collecting Armadillo Scutes:

1. Watch and Wait:

Similar to how Chickens drop Eggs, Armadillos shed a Scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive method requires no items or effort, making it an easy choice. However, it can be time-consuming, especially if you're looking to craft multiple sets of Wolf Armor.

2. Brushing:

The preferred method for most players, brushing involves using a crafted Brush. While typically used for investigating suspicious sand or gravel, the Brush can also be used to gently remove one Scute per brushing from an Armadillo.

In *Minecraft*'s Java Edition, an unenchanted Brush with full durability can be used on an Armadillo four times, whereas in Bedrock Edition, it lasts for five uses before breaking. Damaged Brushes can be combined to repair them, and enchanted Brushes can be merged using an Anvil to retain both enchantments.

A Brush can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing. To craft a Brush, players need a Feather, a Copper Ingot, and a Stick, arranged in the center column of the Crafting Table.

To gather Scutes effectively, approach Armadillos slowly to avoid their defensive roll, then use the Brush to collect the Scutes. With multiple Brushes, players can amass a significant number of Scutes, ready for crafting into Wolf Armor.
