What Is Max Level/Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Level Cap Explained

Author : Ava Update : Mar 29,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive titles in the franchise, boasting a comprehensive progression system that matches its grand scale. Here's a detailed look at the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, blending traditional XP-based growth with the new Knowledge Ranks system. Gaining XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* not only unlocks access to higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear but also enhances the base stats of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke.

While reaching Level 35 is sufficient to explore all Japanese provinces within the game, the XP journey extends well beyond that. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually progress up to Level 60. It's anticipated that this cap might be raised further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion.

The Knowledge Rank system in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* represents a significant evolution in the franchise's progression mechanics. Distinct from XP leveling, Knowledge Ranks advance through earning Knowledge Points via various open-world activities, focusing on mindfulness and training. As players ascend through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though these must be unlocked using Mastery Points.

To access all skills, players need to reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, progression doesn't end here; upon reaching this rank, a new Knowledge tree unlocks, offering additional passive skills to tailor your build to your preferred play style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery, the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serves as the equivalent to skill points, essential for unlocking new skills across six Mastery trees for each protagonist. The cost in Mastery Points can vary among skills.

With a plethora of skills to unlock and numerous ways to earn Mastery Points through diverse activities, players might theoretically reach a Mastery cap. However, this would require extensive engagement with the game, and the *Claws of Awaji* expansion is expected to introduce additional methods to earn Mastery later in 2025.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each Japanese province has an associated level, with Kii requiring the highest initial level of 35. As players advance and their XP level increases, so does the level of some regions, adjusting to match the player's progress.

However, from Level 42 onwards, there's a scaling floor where the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This ensures a balanced challenge in the late game, maintaining combat pace while rewarding long-term players.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
