Loss for Forza Horizon 4 Enthusiasts: December 15 Deadline Arrives
Forza Horizon 4's digital sunset is approaching. On December 15th, 2024, the acclaimed open-world racing title will be removed from major digital platforms like the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. This means no new purchases of the game or its downloadable content (DLC) will be possible after that date.
Launched in 2018, Forza Horizon 4, set in a fictionalized Britain, quickly became a massive hit, boasting over 24 million players by November 2020. Its popularity cemented its place as a leading Xbox title and a top-tier open-world driving experience. Despite earlier assurances to the contrary, expiring licensing agreements necessitate its removal.
The delisting process begins earlier for DLC, which will be unavailable for purchase from June 25th. Only the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions will remain available for purchase until the December deadline. The game's final series, Series 77, will run from July 25th to August 22nd. Following this, the playlist screen will be inaccessible, but the Forza Events screen, offering daily and weekly challenges, will remain functional.
Existing owners, both digital and physical, can continue to play Forza Horizon 4 without interruption. Game Pass subscribers with active subscriptions who have purchased DLC will receive a game token to maintain access. This delisting, while unfortunate, reflects the common reality of racing games facing license expirations for vehicles and music. This fate also befell its predecessor, Forza Horizon 3.
Currently, Steam offers an 80% discount, and an Xbox Store sale is planned for August 14th, providing a final opportunity for players to add this beloved title to their collection.
