The much-anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has taken a significant step forward by securing John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. This duo, renowned for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will bring their creative flair to the screenplay of the film, which is based on Hasbro's iconic board game.

The project is set to be produced by Margot Robbie under her production banner, LuckyChap, adding a touch of star power to the endeavor. Daley and Goldstein, who recently helmed their original film Mayday, have also contributed their writing talents to high-profile projects like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and appeal in the industry.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding, with discussions dating back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. Over the years, various attempts have been made, including a 2011 effort by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski under Ridley Scott's guidance, which ultimately did not materialize. Subsequent attempts in 2015 with Andrew Niccol's script and a 2019 project involving Kevin Hart and director Tim Story also failed to progress.

However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has revitalized the project, marking a fresh start for the Monopoly movie. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, fans and newcomers alike are hopeful that this version will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an entertaining cinematic experience.
