Killer Instinct Gold Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library
Killer Instinct Gold has been newly added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, marking another exciting addition for subscribers of the Online Expansion Pack. This game is a Nintendo 64 port of the beloved arcade fighter, Killer Instinct 2, and it joins the original Killer Instinct in the growing collection of retro titles available to play.
Originally released in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare. At the time, Rare was a prominent second-party developer for Nintendo, known for creating classics such as Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. In Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a diverse roster of 10 fighters and dive into various game modes, boasting "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."
Interestingly, both Rare and the Killer Instinct franchise are now under the ownership of Microsoft, making Killer Instinct Gold the latest Xbox Game Studios title to make its way to the Nintendo Switch. Since the release of the Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct in 2013, there's been no word from Microsoft about a potential new sequel to revive the series.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service that enhances the Nintendo Switch gaming experience. It offers online multiplayer functionality, allowing players to engage in competitive or cooperative play with friends. Additionally, subscribers gain access to a rich library of classic Nintendo games from various consoles spanning over four decades, including the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and soon, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. A free seven-day trial is also available for those interested in trying out the service.
Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 began at the end of April, with the console priced at $449.99. The preorders were met with overwhelming demand, as expected. Nintendo has issued a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to high demand. However, Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, expressed confidence to IGN that the company will have sufficient units to satisfy consumer demand "through the holidays."
