Harrison Ford: 'You Don't Need AI to Steal My Soul,' Proves Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, recently shared his thoughts on Troy Baker's portrayal of the character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In a candid discussion with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn't take AI to do it." This statement underscores Ford's appreciation for Baker's performance and his skepticism towards the use of AI in creative endeavors.
"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, offers fans an "authentic" experience, though it may not be considered part of the official canon. This game's positive reception contrasts sharply with the lukewarm response to the latest film installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which hit theaters in 2023. Given the game's success, the franchise's creators might consider exploring this new direction, potentially moving away from having Ford reprise his role.
Ford, known for his roles in "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and soon in the Marvel universe, joins a chorus of creatives expressing concerns about AI in media. Tim Burton has labeled AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has called it a "dead end." The voice acting community has also been vocal, with Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" criticizing a chatbot that used his voice without permission. Similarly, Doug Cockle, the voice behind "The Witcher," told IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous," echoing Luke's concerns about AI technologies robbing voice actors of their income.
