Mahershala Ali Uncertain on MCU Blade Status

Mahershala Ali has provided multiple updates about Marvel's stagnant Blade reboot while promoting his new film Jurassic World Rebirth, though none inspire much confidence in the project's future.
A Troubled Production Timeline
First announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the film was originally slated for a November release before being removed from Marvel's schedule entirely. After cycling through multiple directors over five years, the project appears no closer to realization.
The situation grew more uncertain eight months ago when Marvel quietly pulled Blade from its release calendar without providing a new date. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige attempted to reassure fans in late 2024: We remain committed to Blade and Mahershala's vision for the character. When we have concrete updates about scheduling, we'll share them.
Ali's Frustration Grows
The two-time Oscar winner has adopted a noticeably resigned tone in recent interviews. When pressed by Variety, Ali offered only: Call Marvel. I'm ready whenever they are.
His comments to The Hollywood Reporter were equally telling: I'd love for Blade to happen, but I honestly don't know where Marvel stands. Right now I'm just focused on finding my next great role.
Creative Collapse
Multiple collaborators have confirmed the project's creative dissolution. Music producer Flying Lotus revealed on social media: I was contracted to score the film before everything fell apart. The version we worked on simply doesn't exist anymore.
Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter confirmed she'd designed 1920s-period costumes for an abandoned version of the film.
Co-star Delroy Lindo offered insights into the production's collapse: The creative conversations were incredibly promising - very collaborative and character-driven. Then suddenly everything derailed.

The situation stands in stark contrast to Deadpool & Wolverine's massive success, which included a cameo from original Blade star Wesley Snipes. Ryan Reynolds has since advocated for Snipes to receive a proper sendoff film, acknowledging the character's foundational role in superhero cinema: The entire modern superhero genre owes its existence to Blade. He deserves a Logan-style finale.
