"Should You Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?"
In *Avowed*, one of the earliest and most impactful decisions you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This choice leads to significantly different outcomes, ranging from a bad ending to a somewhat positive one. This guide will walk you through the consequences of your decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
When you choose to withhold the Splinter of Eothas from Sargamis, the conversation quickly escalates, hinting at dire consequences. True to his word, Sargamis engages you in combat if you refuse to hand over the splinter. In *Avowed*, he is treated as an optional boss with a significant health bar, making this one of the more challenging early encounters.
During the fight, Sargamis summons two spirit creatures that primarily target Kai, allowing you to focus on him. He employs swift thrusting attacks with his sword, enabling him to close distances rapidly. However, he is susceptible to freezing, so equipping ice spells can be advantageous to slow him down.
Upon defeating Sargamis, you are rewarded with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that not only restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a 10 percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
If you decide to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, you have several subsequent choices. You can change your mind at any point, which will provoke Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, which results in his death and grants you the Last Light of Day mace.
Another option is to offer yourself to the statue. If you stand in the circle as instructed and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you will die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will bring you back to the moment before you entered the circle. If you choose to leave the circle when Sargamis tells you to stand still, he will become enraged and attack you.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The optimal way to resolve the situation with the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Persuade him that his plan will not succeed, and he will abandon it.
To initiate this path, consider selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background, though other backgrounds may offer similar options. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer.
After Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a final conversation. Completing this part of the Dawntreader quest this way will grant you more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.
