GameCube Fans Excited for Switch 2: New Nintendo Filings Revealed

Author : Chloe Update : Apr 16,2025

Nintendo enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement following the discovery of new filings that hint at the possibility of a new GameCube controller designed for use with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This potential controller could be used to enjoy GameCube classics through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, expanding the retro gaming library available to subscribers.

According to Nintendo Life, a recent FCC filing by Nintendo for a "game controller" aligns with the Switch 2, and speculation suggests it could be a wireless Bluetooth controller. The online community at Famiboards delved deeper and noticed that one of the images in the filing shows a label location that matches the back of a GameCube controller, specifically behind the C-Stick.

While it could be a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the current buzz leans towards its integration with Nintendo’s Switch Online service, which already supports wireless classic controllers for retro gaming.

This development has fans dreaming of a robust GameCube library being added to Nintendo Switch Online. Despite long-standing demands from the community for GameCube classics on the Switch, Nintendo has primarily focused on re-releasing titles from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. Could the Switch 2 finally bring a significant GameCube revival?

The Nintendo Switch 2 was briefly showcased in a January trailer, confirming features like backwards compatibility and an additional USB-C port. However, details such as its full game lineup and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button were omitted, although the Joy-Con mouse theory has gained attention.

Last month, a Nintendo patent hinted that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers might be attachable upside down. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails for Joy-Con attachment, the new system reportedly employs magnets, enabling versatile positioning. This could allow players to customize button placement and other features, potentially leading to innovative gameplay mechanics if implemented in the final product.

Analysts predict the Switch 2 will be priced around $400, though some speculate it could reach up to $500. A potential release is rumored for June. While many details remain undisclosed, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2 to unveil more about the console.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy a taste of GameCube nostalgia with Metroid Prime Remastered on the current Nintendo Switch.
