"Final Fantasy 14 Servers Face Major Outages"

Final Fantasy 14 recently faced a significant server outage in its North American Data Centers, believed to have been triggered by a power outage rather than a DDoS attack. Players across all four NA Data Centers encountered server disconnections shortly after 8:00 PM Eastern. While this marks a departure from past incidents linked to DDoS attacks, Square Enix is actively investigating the cause.

Earlier in 2024, the game frequently fell victim to DDoS attacks, resulting in increased latency and server disconnects. Despite mitigation efforts, these attacks remain challenging to prevent. However, this latest disruption appears to stem from external factors, such as a transformer explosion in Sacramento, home to the game's NA Data Centers. Social media accounts and Reddit threads noted a loud noise consistent with a power failure, followed by a swift return to normalcy within an hour.

While the European, Japanese, and Oceanic servers remained operational, the NA Data Centers—including Aether, Crystal, and Primal—gradually resumed services. Dynamis, the newest center, remained offline temporarily. As Final Fantasy 14 gears up for 2025, including the anticipated mobile release, ongoing server stability remains a critical concern for both players and developers.
