Speculation about a Final Fantasy IX (FFIX) remake is heating up again following Square Enix's latest updates to the game’s 25th-anniversary website. The addition of new profiles for fan favorites Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner has supporters interpreting the move as a precursor to a potential FFIX remake.

Earlier this year, Square Enix launched the anniversary site, which alone stirred rumors. Then, weeks later, the company shared a tweet featuring a quote from the beloved black mage Vivi, further fueling excitement.

The most recent update includes small icons for four of the eight main characters. Clicking on them reveals short summaries paired with fresh artwork from FFIX’s character designer Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his contributions to the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo spinoff series. These descriptions recap each character’s role and ambitions in the story.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the careful attention to detail Square Enix has poured into this anniversary celebration has fans expecting a major announcement soon. For now, enthusiasts will need to wait patiently for further news regarding a possible remake.

New Merchandise Available

In addition, Square Enix has expanded its 25th-anniversary lineup with new merchandise. Highlights include Garnet’s necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, a set of acrylic standees, and more.

Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now available for pre-order, with an expected release date of November 15. It is priced around ¥38,500 (approximately $260). Meanwhile, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat is also open for reservations and is scheduled to release on September 6, costing about ¥17,600 (roughly $120).

Another standout item is the Final Fantasy IX Acrylic Stand Collection, available in eight different designs. The set is sold in blind boxes, so buyers won’t know which design they’ll receive until opening the package.

With all these promotional efforts and merchandise releases, many feel an FFIX remake is nearly inevitable. Although Square Enix remains silent on the matter, fans continue to hold out hope for a remake of their cherished adventure in Gaia.
