As Elden Ring Nightreign approaches its release, FromSoftware has offered a first look at one of its bosses, whose appearance strangely echoes a well-known cartoon character. On May 6, IGN released new gameplay footage featuring "Libra, Creature of Night," one of the eight Nightlords.

True to FromSoftware's style, Libra appears to continue the tradition of challenging encounters, boasting both devastating attacks and impressive speed. Beyond its combat capabilities, however, players have picked up on the Nightlord's peculiar visual design.

YouTube commenters have pointed out Libra's uncanny similarity to Grey Matter, one of the alien forms from the popular animated series Ben 10. The comparison stems from Libra's apparent massive eyes, which amusingly turned out not to be eyes at all, but bells suspended from its horns.

This resemblance sparked discussion on Reddit as far back as the game's reveal trailer in December 2024, where Libra made a brief appearance. Despite the humorous parallel, Libra looks poised to thoroughly challenge players upon the game's launch.

The gameplay preview confirmed that Libra is a boss capable of inflicting Madness, a status effect that drains health and focus points while temporarily stunning affected players. The footage underscores the need for strong team coordination, as this Creature of the Night employs wide area-of-effect attacks and complex attack patterns.

Before the battle begins, players have the option to strike a bargain with the Scale-bearing Merchant, who offers enhanced strength, resistance to ailments, or protection from death. Alternatively, players can decline and proceed directly to confront the boss. The video does not clarify, however, if accepting this deal carries any hidden costs or consequences. Whether a deal is made or not, it is revealed that the merchant is actually Libra in disguise, who then sheds its outer layer to show its true form.

As the encounter continues, Libra grows more threatening, unveiling a broader range of abilities. It begins by launching spell projectiles and summoning area-of-effect sigils throughout the arena. After sustaining significant damage, Libra enters a enraged state, delivering powerful melee strikes. Its madness-inflicting spells also become more potent, and its area attacks expand in range.

With less than a month until launch, FromSoftware seems intent on sharing more details to convince fans that their new multiplayer-focused approach to Souls games will be a unique experience.
