'Elden Ring' Player's Daily Duel Challenge Targets 'Nightreign' Release
An Elden Ring player's unique approach to waiting for the upcoming Elden Ring: Nightreign spin-off involves a daily battle against the formidable Messmer the Impaler. This dedicated gamer, known as chickensandwich420, is documenting his impressive feat on YouTube.
A Daily Grind: No Hits, New Weapons
Instead of passively awaiting Nightreign's release, chickensandwich420 embarked on a self-imposed challenge: consistently defeating Messmer on NG+7, utilizing a different weapon each day and achieving a flawless, no-hit victory. This grueling task began on December 16, 2024. Initially planning to tackle various FromSoftware bosses, time constraints due to university studies led him to focus solely on Messmer.
Messmer, the second antagonist in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is renowned for his extreme difficulty. Many players report requiring numerous attempts (ranging from 30 to over 150) to defeat him, even with optimal gear. chickensandwich420's undertaking is therefore a significant accomplishment.
However, the challenge has a built-in deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, chickensandwich420 will shift his focus to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off set within the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a projected 2025 release. Given FromSoftware's history, however, the actual release date remains uncertain. The success of chickensandwich420's Messmer marathon hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
